In a time of frustration, anger, and fear, I wanted to create something authentic to my life at the moment, but I didn’t want to create something that showed my anger. I’ve always considered my humor and lightheartedness the strongest part of me, for I can turn many situations into a smile sooner or later. When I sat down to think about my intentions for this piece, I thought, there is almost no better way to stay true to myself than to create a humorous piece out of my frustration. And that’s exactly what I did. For inspiration, I turned to Shel Silverstein poems because I believe he is one of the best examples of using humor in tough situations. The work grew with silly movement and lots of noises, each dancer bringing their own self to the process.
